Almonds
Almond tree seeds which we call almond nuts are probably one of the most nutritious types of nut. If we look at the almond trees we see beautiful flowers, strength and aromas used in production of perfumes. The beginnings of this plant are in the seed which provides the initial nutrients for the growth of the almond tree. Therefore it is no wonder that eating almonds have many benefits also to our health.
Fats
The main benefits of eating almonds are the fats they contain. People are usually scared of that word “fat”. In this case we have to remember that there are many different variations of fats – from monounsaturated (in plants) to polysaturated(animal origin). The difference is in the composition of the fat which influences the ability of our bodies to break down this substance. Someone would ask – so why we should consume fat at all if it causes so many problems. Well, every cell in your body is surrounded by the lipid bilayer which is totally essential to existence of living organisms. We are replacing and growing cells everyday like our skin cells which require fatty acids. Of course this is just the tip of the mountain.
Almonds contain monounsaturated fats which are also common in olive oil. Intake of this kind of fat is beneficial for replacement of the bad fats. Combined with exercise the reduction of health risks due to high cholesterol is tremendous. Therefore wide range cardiovascular diseases could be prevented by a regular dietary intake of almonds (listed below).
Dietary Fibre
The dietary fibre content of almonds is also very high. This is very beneficial for the digestive system. Fibre contributes to the bowel movement thus helps to prevent colon cancer, enhances absorption of nutrients thus helping the metabolism. Starchy food like almond is hard to digest thus releases the energy more gradually which makes you feel full for longer and not get bombarded by calories instantly. This is very useful for prevention of diabetes as the glucose level in blood is being kept more stable.
Acids & Vitamins
Almonds are rich with folic acid which is a highly advised dietary micronutrient for pregnant women. Folic acid prevents birth defects as it is a major component of a healthy DNA synthesis in the cell division. During pregnancy the cell division is very rapid and require more folate than usual, therefore a deficiency can occur without an appropriate extra intake of this substance.
Vitamin E is probably one of the most popular antioxidants. The almonds have one of the highest content of this micronutrient (after sunflower oil). Vit. E has very strong enzymatic qualities. It helps to bind and metabolise free radicals(cause of cancer) and is very important in gene expression.
Skincare industry has exploited almonds for all of the possible reasons – adding products the properties of skin protection, regeneration etc. There is always a chance that you will benefit from external use of skincare products but it is scientifically proven that dietary intake of a substance is the best way to absorb and use it. Almonds provide a high dose of magnesium which very important for the production of body potein(muscles).
